INTO THE BADLANDS

The Great Plains hold a secret. Miles of unrelenting prairie suddenly give way to a tear in the featureless scenery—as if some mighty giant rent the earth with a massive axe—revealing a hidden landscape beneath. Badlands National Park sits in the center of these formations, but they extend past the park boundaries into public grasslands for miles. Just beware: it is easy to get lost in the Badlands: I first entered over ten years ago, and I haven’t really found my way out since.
